Church History

Started in late 1930's or early 1940's.
Began as a home church by a group of believers meeting in homes and a garage on US 41.
In 1947, Robert Clater of Rural Home Mission helped organize the group into the Lyford Bible Church.
In 1950, Arthur McManis became pastor. He helped the church purchase land and build a tile block building on Lafayette Street. He pastored the church for five years.
In 1952, the church was officially organized and incorporated.
In the late 1950's the church pulpit was filled by different men in the area. Earl Stevenart, from Terre Haute Bible Center, filled the pulpit the most consistently.
In 1959, Chester Martin became the pastor. Pastor Martin and his wife, Arlene, were at the church for 18 years.
In 1968, the church purchased land and the brick building where they are currently located. Six years later they added on to the building.
In 1977, David Mallinick became pastor. He pastored for two years.
In 1979, Phil Taylor became pastor. He pastored for four years.
In 1984, Scott Coombes became pastor. He is currently the pastor and has been serving here for twenty-seven years.

The Lyford Bible Church has had over 70 years of ministry to the community. There is still more that needs to be done for our Lord and Savior. There are more souls that need to hear about the Gospel, more missionaries that need to be sent, and a need for more strong Christian homes.
